Kids Adaptive Little League Team Receives $1000 from Local Foundations
Arbutus, MD - The John C. Atkinson-Maitland Education Foundation and Baltimore County’s Southwest Visions Foundation joined together on April 14, 2023 to donate $1000 to the Arbutus Little League Challengers. The Challengers are an adaptive baseball team for youth and young adults with physical or cognitive challenges. “Providing an opportunity for youth of all abilities to participate in sports is a learning opportunity on many levels” said Lisa Maitland de Hernández, of the John C. Atkinson-Maitland Education Foundation. Jay Dillow, President of the Southwest Visions Foundation, whose mission is in part to work with County and State partners to bring grants that will facilitate improvements to benefit the community, says “this donation will increase opportunities for our community, the kids and their families”. He adds, “bringing visibility to the Challengers team and their need for an accessible playing area is another way to benefit all in the community and the County.” Challengers President Jeff Smith says that with the donation, “we will be able to eliminate the cost of the program that the families contribute for this season and we will be able to upgrade our uniform shirts to better recognize all of the community groups that support our team.” For more information about the Southwest Visions Foundation, a registered 501c3, established to address the economic development of Baltimore County, visit www.southwestvisions.org. We are pleased to share that our President, Jay Dillow, was chosen as the 2024 Community Hero for Baltimore County's First District. Jay was recognized for his extensive work with Southwest Visions, as well as for his past efforts on behalf of youth sports in the community.
Despite the weather it was a bright and uplifting day at the Community Leaders Summit in Towson where we saw a number of community leaders recognized for their efforts, had the opportunity to interact with County agencies and representatives, and came away with fresh enthusiasm.
Please join us in congratulating Jay!
